FMCG: Galaxy Chocolate Redesign
Smooth, silky self indulgence - were the keywords that I have linked with Galaxy Chocolate after reading their promotional materials. However, I felt that these keywords weren't integrated well into their current line of products. This redesign project was my answer - An attempt to create a product that fit into this brand image - with considerations of sustainability.
My query came from an episode of Vogue, starring Paloma Faith. She linked her self-indulgence and self-care routines (including skincare) with the sponsor, Galaxy Chocolate. However, from a product design standpoint, this connection was puzzling. The brand's chocolates didn't have an apparent advantage over its competitors when it came to those self-care related consumption moments. So, my goal with this project was to create a chocolate perfect for a relaxing time in bed, with a skin care mask on.
The result is a chocolate shape that follows the inner linings of a mouth, so that it can be enjoyed without chewing - to prevent wrinkles of the skin care mask - while accentuating the notorious silkiness of the Galaxy Brand chocolate. The packaging complements the design of the chocolate well, by positioning them to suit the intended orientation when picked up without thought, and adding accompanying features such as a tray design, meant to hold glasses of wine or cucumbers - perfect for those rewarding nights. Additionally, the packaging if made fully out of cardboard, with no plastics or mixed materials involved, suitable to be recycled.
